In responce to the closure of the road through Monroe Canyon to ATV's, the Fishlake National Forest Service and the Paiute ATV Trail Committiee have announced the opening of a NEW trail on the Paiute ATV Trail System.
The road in question was a 1.8 mile stretch of paved road from the forest boundary to the dirt portion of forest road 078 near Monrovian Park.
Safety and liability issues have officials at the Fishlake National Forest working to enforce an off highway vehicle ban in Monroe Canyon, which has been in place for 17 years but was never enforced. The NEW Trail, designated Trail #065, travels through Live Oak Canyon, a much more scenic route just south of Monroe and connects trails #024 in the valley, with the upper portion of forest road 078 near Monroe Peak and then on to Paiute ATV Trail #078. Riders can now bypass the section of closed road in Monroe Canyon and still gain access to the lower valley from trail #078 at the top or drive up from the valley floor and then drop back down Monroe Canyon on the dirt section of forest road 078 to Monrovian Park.
