Thanks --I saw the red lines.  And got them transfered to the GPS devise.  At least it said it did.  Dont know for sure.

Next question-I have a Garmin nuvi 1300 and it doesnt have a pan mode.  Do you know of another way to view how the trails are going to appear on the unit with out being there?

None that I know of Bob.

Thanks for the input --but Duragadgets have a water/dust proof case and handlebar mount for the nuvi.  I had the nuvi b-4 i bought the ATV and am just trying it out for trail riding applications.  Some people in  other chat rooms say the nuvi's work great becauyse of their wide screen.

I'd be interested in checking the case out. Where can you find them?

Actually, it is not entirely correct to state that the nuvi line of gps's is not capable of outdoor use.  The nuvi 500 is designed as a waterproof unit and can be loaded with their topo maps.  It still does the voice prompt directions for use in your vehicle and can be moved over to the atv to be used outdoors.  The nuvi 500 is the gps that was provided by CanAm on my friend, Willie's, new Outlander Max 500.  So far I am impressed enough with it that I am considering upgrading to it for both my wife and me.

Nuvi's work great on the trail.  In dusty or rainy weather I put a zip lock bag over my 1300.  The Nuvi's have large bright screens.  I ride mostly in WV and have created Transparent maps with difficulty color coded and dashed tracks.  Most of the guys I ride with use my maps on their Nuvi.  As stated the 500's are waterproof, but the 1300 and others have larger screens.

I use a Colorado zoomed to about 200ft and a Nuvi 1300 zoomed to about .3 miles when I ride. I track and view trails at high detail on the Colorado and use the Nuvi for general location.  The link below will take you to my file sharing site where I distribute my maps.  A bunch of guys I ride with are coming to ride in Utah and I will make a map of the trails that I have for Utah.

Also, in case you do not know the Nuvi's track pretty well and you can download the tracks into Mapsource.  This weekend I tracked with both the Colo and Nuvi.  The Colo tracked 5500 points and the Nuvi tracked 6000 points.

I upgraded last week from a Magellan Explorist to a Garmin 60CSx and also purchased the Garmin 24K Southwest TOPO DVD.  I was wondering if the Utah Trail map overlays include trails in Southern Utah as well.

Being from Vegas and considering the skyrocketing cost of Diesel, I may be forced to ride closer to home this summer.  If the trail maps include So UT, I'll look further into this topic

Thx!

The version linked to here in the forums contains all the trails that had been maped out by the Utah State Parks OHV program as of March 2007. All over Utah.

We are working on a version based on the 2010 OHV trail CD.

Something I forgot to mention when using a Nuvi, you have to set the "Route Preference" under Navigation to "Offroad".  Normally Nuvi's have a feature called "jump to road" which displays the cursor on the nearest road.  "Offroad" disables this feature, I think!
