Paunsaugunt Plateau - Powell Ranger District

The Powell Ranger District encompasses the Paunsaugunt and Sevier Plateaus and lies west and north of Bryce Canyon National Park. The district includes 388,598 acres within the Dixie National Forest. In addition, there are 4,775 acres of private land within the district boundaries. Over 1,217 miles of roads, 224 miles of foot, horse, and bike trails and 321 miles of ATV/OHV trails provide access within the district. Fishable waters include Tropic Reservoir and the East Fork of the Sevier River. Winter use includes snowmobiling and cross country skiing. The Red Canyon and King Creek Campgrounds provide a total of 75 campsites. Dispersed camping is allowed throughout the district unless otherwise posted.

RedCanyon
Ponderosa and Bristlecone Pines lend perspective and variety to this photographer's dream of canyon walls bounded by unsullied blue skies, brilliantly hued limestone of the Claron formation bound Utah 12, one of he nation's most scenic highways and All American Roads, information about Dixie National Forest and surrounding area is available n the Red Canyon Visitor Center located in Red Canyon just off Highway 2. Bryce Canyon National Park
Bounding the edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau, the park offers unparalleled views of southern Utah's plateaus. Superb air quality permits 90-mile views on most days and up to 200 miles on crisp winter days. Camping, hiking, photography and sightseeing are available year round. Concessionaire led horseback rides and lodging are available in the park n spring, summer and fall months. Private businesses offer services year-round outside the park.
