San Rafael Swell
04/07/08 at 07:20:34

I went with a group of friends for a saturday ride on the "Behind the Reef Trail" on the San Rafael Swell.  This place is quicly becoming my favorite place to ride in the early spring.  Here are a couple of pictures of the ride, although they don't do it justice for ther beauty!!!

Jerry, that's a great picture of Hondu Arch.  That's a really fun ride isn't it.  It was fun riding around inside Tomsich mine, although I didn't stay in there long due to the dust being stirred up, and it being a uranium mine.

RU,
Yes it was a fun ride!  I was the ONLY person who wouldn't ride inside the mine though.  I worked enough hours in there as a youngster to know how dangerous they were...didn't want any part of it!  This was a great ride!

Jerry,

You are a smart man.  I went in took a left towards the exit to the area where the tailings were dropped looked out the mine from there, and returned the way I came.  Just in that short amount of time, there was plenty of dust and I didn't want any more part of it.

Doug,

Yes you do need to ride this area!  Wink

Right now if things go okay, I'm supposed to be ridin' sometime into June.  I see the Doc this Friday for a once over, and he'll hopefully give me some good news.

Ahh yes the smell of Uranium dust and Radon gas so thick you can cut it with a knife, I remember it well  Shocked NO thanks I spent way too much time in those kind of places as a kid fresh out of Trade School. I'll stick to open air and trails. Plenty of that in the swell to explore Smiley

I vote we head down later this month . We'll just duct tape RU to the quad and take off . I'm not for riding inside  mines but I sure do love to ride around them ! Grin

I'm all for it!  With enough straps, bungees and duct tape, we should be able to get RU around without too much trouble!!!!

Auggie,

Grin    I'd do that in a heartbeat if it were in the cast.  The week after I got home from the Tri-State jam. I got to take off the sling.  Even until now, the shoulder is very sore, and I have limited use.  I asked the Dr. if the tendons and muscle they screwed and sewed back on to the bone were mended, and he chuckled and said, yeah maybe in about 2-3 more months.  They really make you feel good with that kind of a diagnosis.   Undecided

Bob

RU,
Don't push the recovery too soon.  I had a friend try and do too much and he ended up needing another surgery to repair the repair!...needless to say...his doctor was pissed!  I know it's hard but take it easy and you will be ready for some awsome late summer/early fall riding!!!!
Get feeling better! Wink

Thanks a lot Jerry and Auggie!!!  I just got back from the Doc today and specifically asked him when I'll be able to ride.  He said "no sooner than 2 months out.  Then we see how you're doing."      Angry Angry    Smiley

I have to agree with you though, there's no way I want to go through this again because of my stupidity.
