South Valley Motorsports - Service Dept.

In less than one years time, I've paid over $4000 in repairs to South Valley Motorsports. (in Draper, Utah).

Each time I've dropped my machine off, I was certain that the repairs required were minimal (basic tune-up, basic clutch adjustment, etc).

I'm quite positive now (after speaking with other customers waiting in the lobby) that South Valley does an excellent job at bait-and-switch.

They get you in, give you a low estimate ($105 for clutch adjustment), then contact you several hours (after dismantling your machine and making it un-drivable) later and inform you that while looking at your machine, they found "other" issues that are urgent and require immediate repair.

Last Friday morning (for example), I dropped my 2005 Kawasaki Brute Force 750i off for a simple clutch adjustment (belt was floppy). They quoted $105 and a few hours of time.

I phoned later that evening and they informed me that the clutch required considerable work and that I had a rear left wheel bearing ready to detonate and bad rear brakes.  Quote now was for just over $1000.

Upon getting my machine back (after paying the repair bill), I noticed that it had much mud & snow dripping from the skid-plates and could not discern that any parts have been removed from my rear end (wheel bearing, brakes, etc).

Considering it was almost 50F yesterday, I was puzzled to explain where all the snow and mud came from, except perhaps that they had ridden my machine .3 miles someplace (the setting that read on my odometer after I reset it).

Anybody else have issues with these guys? Can they be trusted or should I seek service elsewhere now? If elsewhere, where else can I take a Kawasaki for reliable service?

I've found that to be the M.O. of every dealership service department I've ever done business with (whether ATV, automotive, etc).  I no longer take my vehicles to dealerships unless it's warranty work.  I either do the work myself, or find an independent shop (without the backing of a huge corporation) that needs my business enough not to screw me over.

I have read  your posts avout your problems before . It seems that you have had a multitude of problems , more than anyone else I know .  Sad

I am not surprised by your feelings .  It's unfortunate  but it seems to happen more often all the time .  Undecided

I too do most all of my work . . I enjoy doing it and have done it since I was a kid .  There are a couple of shops that I have worked with in N . Utah that I feel good enough about to refer . One is Newgate Motorsports . Ask for Tom in the service dept . He has done this a long time and he is really good .

And then of course there is Vescos . I have had problems with some of their employees in the past but they are now gone . I give Don Robinson credit for one main thing - if you go to him with a problem  and it's legit , he'll take care of it . His shop has not always done perfect by me but when he finds out about it he tries hard to take care of it . His service manager and I  tangled a few years ago and afterwards he was gone . He was a nice kid but he made some big mitakes .  His head mechanic is Corey and I've used him with great results . Basically he's done what he said he would when he said he would do it , with no surprises and did a good job .

The problem with an independent shop is that they work on such a varied amount  of equipment and chances are they never get to know what you ride .

I realize that Brigham City is a stretch but then 4k is a big chunk to lay out . I haven't spent that much keeping four quads running in ten years .

Being a woman and feeling like I wear a sign that says...I must be an idiot.....I will only deal with certain people.  I have to say the person who takes the best care of me is Dustin Sweeten at Powerhouse Motorsports in Pleasant Grove.  I have gone in there and always came out with minimum expense.  I too don't think I've ever spent close to $4000.00 in repairs and maintenance even back when we were maintaining 7 machines.  Other places I feel fairly comfortable.  Mike Shelley at Duff Shelley's in AF (although sometimes they can be a bit slow), Alpine RV in Lindon.  If you talk to Dustin or Mike...tell them Belva Carlisle recommended you.  That's my 2 cents worth and it is coming from a woman...you know us...we don't know squat about engines.....at least that's what we want you to think.... Wink

Oh and FYI...I do attack some of my maintenance stuff myself....comes from being daddy's little boy sometimes....Smiley

To much riding can make you healthy, wise, and broke. But I was broke already.

Stino, don't you have that a little backwards, I have allways heard it as "violate me once shame on them, violate me twice shame on me" as in why did I allow them to do it again?

I always heard- Fool Me Once, shame on you!  Fool Me Twice, Shame On Me!

It seems as if it makes more sense that way.

Either way- As The Who put it "We Won't Get Fooled Again"
