Crescent Loop Trail, East of Price

Our group did a ride last weekend that was one of the prettiest rides I have done in a long long while.  There was nothing technical on the ride…just dirt road.  It is on the State OHV CD and it is called the Crescent Loop if I remember right.  I will do a track of where we went and post it in a couple of days along with some photos.

We rode on the pavement a couple of miles from the rodeo grounds east of Sunnyside and took a dirt road up to the right.

There was old mining equipment and an overhead tram still visible in places.  We went and drove by the radio towers on Bruin Peak without even seeing them.  We were in the clouds and visibility was less than a hundred feet.  We got into some mud and a little rain while up at 10,000’.  From there we drove about 20 miles east and dropped down into Nine Mile canyon and saw some of the rock art.  We headed back up Dry Canyon and back to the towers on Bruin (which we could see this time).  We had to pass through a natural gas pumping station (I think) at the beginning of Dry canyon where they were controlling access to the area.  We had to sign in before they would let us pass by the plant to go up Dry Canyon.

It was about 65 miles and a really gorgeous ride.  Everyone needs to do that ride.  We plan on going back in the fall as the color should be just out of this world.

That's a really nice loop.  I drove it in my truck a few years ago, and ever since I got my ATV I've wanted to go back.  I'm thinking about doing it this summer, but riding straight from my house in Price and camping on Bruin Point for the night.

Wow, that wasn't the case in 2007.  The road went right past the compressor station, but they weren't controlling access back then.  I wonder why the big increase in security.

I went for a ride up to Bruin Point yesterday evening, and it was so nice up there.  Pretty chilly on top, and I only had time to drop a short distance down the Dry Canyon road.  I can't wait to do this loop when it's a bit warmer at night.  Oh, and Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!
