Respecting Piute County
02/26/11 at 15:25:10

The following was a letter to the editor in the Richfield Reaper this week:

Respecting Piute County
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 3:33 PM MST
I was born and raised in Piute County and reside in Circleville. I take my family camping, hunting and fishing all over this area, just like my father took me. It’s a beautiful place and I think it should be protected.

I know that word “protected” means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but for me it means doing everything we can to make sure the land in Piute County is respected and taken care of.

There has been a lot of discussion on the state and federal level about the new BLM announcement to designate wildlands in Utah, some of it good and some of it bad.

In my opinion, pushing wilderness areas from the top down is the wrong way to go. This is a common sense county and we need to have our voices heard on these issues. We know better than anyone what land should be protected.

I’m as firm a believer in state’s rights as the next guy, but I don’t see this issue as just state’s rights. That’s the popular talk today, but it isn’t all there is to it.

We complain about Congress and the federal government never getting anything done and not being willing to compromise, so here’s our chance to teach them a thing or two.

I’m writing to tell my fellow county neighbors that use of federal lands doesn’t and shouldn’t have to be “all or nothing.”

The county has a lot to offer. It has space for farmers, ranchers, hunters, anglers, ATV riders, hikers, campers and conservationists alike.

We are a diverse community with diverse interests and goals. We should honor that and work together to decide what’s best for our county from within.

Nobody knows better what we need here than we do. We have good leaders in this county and we should support them. We elected them to speak for us and we should encourage them to keep up the good work they are doing.

Any good solution involves compromise, respectful discussion and good leadership. Finding a fair, common sense solution to our land use issues should involve our community and its leaders.

Our county commissioners have been leading the way on this in a collaborative process, and I support them. I hope you will too.

It’s not easy bringing all these groups together, but it’s the right thing to do.

Cordell Pearson

And this was one of the replies:

Sharon Bloodgood wrote on Feb 25, 2011 3:36 PM:
" ATVs have ruined the Tushar Mountains. We need to close off all access and only allow primative travel.
We need to stop the mass slaughter of all of the peaceful animals by limiting firearm ownership and enforcing tougher hunting restrictions. We need to re-introduce wolves for healthy population control. It is our responsibility to protect wild Utah before we loose it.
When I moved here from California, I took it upon myself to make Utah better. There was such a lack of pride in Utahns when it came to taking care of what they have. Now that I'm a Utahn I will fight to keep you people from ruining it for the rest of us.
Kelly Jensen's letter is hilarious.
Quote:"SUWA has awakened a sleeping giant,
We wont sit back and let this pathetic orginization continue to shut down beautiful lands for everyone to use."
Kelly, you don't pose a threat. You can't even spell organization! "

Thank goodness for all the Californians that come to Utah to save us from ourselves .

Maybe she should go  back to California . I've heard that they need a little help over there .  Grin

Ya I loved to sit and listen to my Dad tell how when he was the Mayor in Marysvale they would have people move in from California, all raving about how much they loved it in Utah and it was the "Perfect" place to live. Then the next comment would be about how things here HAVE to change, because it was done differently back "HOME in California". His reply was usually well if you helped manage that "bleeping" state so dam well why did you move here? and if you like the way it was there then go "HOME" where you came from or accept the way things are here.

As for the womans comment, you and I Glenn could honestly testify to how things in Piute and Sevier counties have greatly improved as a result of the ATV activities. Not just economically but the conditions on the mountains.

We have less trails, and NO cross country travel tearing up things. We have cleaned up the mess the miners made through the previous 50+ years. We have reforested areas and we have cleaned up the garbage that used to be strewn along side the mountain trails and roads. And thats been done mostly by ATV riders cleaning up trash they found along the way.

This woman moved here and has no clue as to what it used to be like. She needs to learn to get along or go "HOME".

Its bad enough when ATVers don't recognize the work that some of us to on the trails, but it really sucks when you hear from the peanut gallery that has no clue.

This is the "California Attitude"  that I detest!  This person really belongs back in CA and needs to leave Utah to those of us that really enjoy riding the backcountry and want to keep it that way.  Go Home!!!   Angry

Frank , when I called you an oddball I meant it in the nicest possible way . Wink Rolling on floor laughing  If I pay for a one way ticket to California would you meet her at the airport ?

You're right Gary . I remember Marysvale ( actually  Southern Utah period ) before the advent of atvs .  If you think the economy is tough now , try to remember back thirty years ago or so . Most of the small towns were " hidden " with few people ever seeing them . I remember  talking to your Dad about it . He knew the hard work that had been done to revitalize the area but hard work is not enough . It took money to get things done . Money that atvs brought using trails and roads that had mainly been made by  miners , ranchers , farmers , hunters and loggers .

Everytime I go to Monroe from Joseph  I remember the old dump at the Joe Town Hill . What a mess . Now it's gone . When I go to Marysvale I remember the trashy  road your Dad called " Tobacco Alley " . Now it's a beautiful place .

So , just so everyone is aware of how I feel , I will keep my guns  and  my atvs  . I will fight against having wolves in my backyard  and if anyone questions how my pride is then please , just ask . And if I didn't love my fellow man then why would I give someone a one way plane ticket home ?

For you guys who go back along ways in the Utah ATV story and in particular the Paiute Trail area, it would be great if you all responded to the Richfield Reaper and bring these California transplants up to speed about how the ATV community has benefitted that area.  I know I would like to hear and read more of these little known historical stories that you write about on this forum.    Gary, Glenn get your pencils sharpened.

I looked this morning on the Reapers web site but apparently her letter won't be up for a day or two . But I will respond . Wink

Stories ? It's easy . Growing up where I did life just seemed to be one story after another . But then we were always outside doing something .  I couldn't have planned a better growing up . It was so good in fact that someday I'm going to have a place right next to Taccom .  Grin

Before you bash too much, please remember not all of us from California are like this.  Some of us come to Utah, spend money in the state and respect the land, people, and resources.  Hey- some of us are on your side!  Not all Californians are wackos, and not all wackos are Californians!

I don't count all Californians as wackos... just most of ya  Rolling on floor laughing

No seriously I have a lot of friends there many hang out here so I do know they are now all like.

We just seem to attract a lot of the control freak nut jobs to move here with wild ideas of how they think they will swoop in and tell us poor country hicks how to live our lives and run our State, with the attitude of "back HOME we do it this way and by dam you will here TOO!!"  It used to drive my Dad nuts as the Mayor of Marysvale. He usually replied with "if you like the way it was there why the _ell did you move here?" OR "Why don't you just move back there and things will be the way you want them?"  Wink

Personally I'm getting the impression this ranting woman in the comments of the reaper article is several bails short of a full load if you know what I mean  Grin

But it's too much fun dangling more rope for her to hang herself with  Rolling on floor laughing

Wow !!!

I got on the Reapers site to post a comment and just spent quite a bit of time reading all the comments .

Thanks Taccom for the plug for Take Back  Utah . Smiley

And thank you Gary for some well written words . Do you think this gal has any neighbors that talk to her ? It would be tough for me to live next door to someone who thinks all Utahns are idiots,  have fully automatic revolvers and have atvs that spew our harmful emissions that choke the life out of chipmunks . I know that I can't have a conversation with a deer like she can but I just keep thinking about her  poor , poor  ex husband . I'll bet he's still in therapy.

After reading the most current give and take posts in the Reaper all I can do is sit and laugh.   It's just not fair to see such an intellectually challenged woman like this Sharon, obviously is, trying to make an valid, useful point against informed and knowledgable people living in the area.    It makes more sense to me that she is just  a" mindless, SUWA, plant" trying to stir things up rather than a real, logical, thinking, human being.   Maybe California has a new program to clean up their State by giving one way tickets out to people like this Sharon.   Rolling on floor laughing

It's just too much fun messing with people this stupids head  Rolling on floor laughing  Sort of like fishing for carp in a barrel, toss out some bait and let her hang herself.  She literally can not make a post without looking like a total idiot.

Heck she drove her ex-husband GAY if you read her post about him  Huh

There are more posts that have been made but have not shown up so the funny pages will continue.  Wink

But whats better is this story went vital on Facebook and by email to every person in Piute County. I'd hate to be her the next time she goes to the store or gas station or even church Undecided

I mean we are talking a small enough rural town that they still keep tar and feathers handy at the town hall for such people.  Rolling on floor laughing Rolling on floor laughing

I am extremely fond of Utah and can't seem to spend enough time there. HOWEVER I can only hope that the good people of Utah would do me the kindness of warning me before they run this nut case out and back to California. As by doing so this nut case would have to pass through Nevada and might stop. We have more than enough here already.

Now if I could just git me one of those fully automatic revolvers I could go hunt me some deer Wink

Here's my last post on the reaper site:

" Sharon send me your address and I'll take a shovel and box up all the deer excrement in my front yard and send it to you. You can examine it to see how healthy they are. Its going to require a very big box so be prepared. You'll have a very large sample to work with. "

Hopefully she takes me up on it, perhaps I could add a little of my own to the mix and I'll pass her address around to the rest of you guys.

Here's my last nice post to Sharon:

" Sharon, I am not lying about the fourteen point deer. The deer have not shed their antlers quite yet. If you want I'll be glad to show you plenty of deer with antlers right now. Although it won't be long before the beginning of spring when they do shed their antlers. I'm sorry that you are so uninformed on this. Maybe if you are uninformed on this point perhaps you stand to be uninformed on a lot of other points. "

You don't think she'll reconsider do you?  Well I found a box and I've found a bull, now I can send her what she needs.

I love this part of her post

"Take for example SUWA, a very small group (15 to 20 people) is shutting down wilderness access. THEY ARE SMALL BUT MIGHTY! "

I have a feeling SUWA has a Buttload more in there group.

I think she is not the brightest bulb on the tree.

Taccom, maybe when you show her all the deer you could put a couple of those face masks (that people in hospitals use) on a few deer decoy targets set up in your yard and tell her that ATVers try to pass breathing masks out to all the animals before we ride.  That should "play" with her mind a little.

She is such a crackup. She spouts off calling taccom a lier yet didn't have a clue when Deer and Elk dropped their antlers. I can honestly say I didn't know exactly, I knew it was soon but not sure exactly when, so I simply went to Google and asked. THOUSANDS of sites came up, all with the same answer.

January or February but some can hang onto them as long as well into April.

Yet this self professed expert wanted to argue with taccom that he lied and with someone else that wikapedia wasn't a valid resource. Crap the Deer and wolf pages are so well annotated and cross-referenced you'd find it hard to prove a single word out of context. Oh wait... DAM i see a missing period, she got us on that one.  Rolling on floor laughing Rolling on floor laughing

Now it looks like she's been setting up troll accounts to pull a sneak attack  Rolling on floor laughing Rolling on floor laughing

I love the names

Cooter Davenport a fictional character from the American TV show The Dukes of Hazzard.

Matt Fowley a fictional character from the American TV show Saturday Night Live

Jack Handey an American humorist best known for his book Deep Thoughts, a large body of surrealistic one-liner jokes.

Or are some of you in there planing to stir up trouble with the mentally handicapped?  Dang I hope so it's so much fun it should be fattening or illegal.  Rolling on floor laughing Rolling on floor laughing Rolling on floor laughing

I enjoyed the Reaper comments with Ms. Sharon.  I figured she was just pulling our chain.  But it was so dam funny to listen to it all.  I actually was hoping she would continue.  Lost count on how many heart attacks she almost caused.  It is nice to know that their are an awesome cadre of defenders for the good old Paiute trail.  I hope that never dies.  To all of you who bristled your feathers.... thank you so much.... you are awesome and I take my hat off to you.  I'll ride with you on those stinking ATVs any day.  I'll ride with you, even if yer from California..... ROFLMAO

it seemed to have gone ofline for  a bit but it's up again.

I was having fun keeping her/it stirred up Smiley  But I think the admin there caught them/it/her in a bit of deception. the above listed 4 names all use the same IP address and in many other comments are simply stirring up trouble.

Oh well all good fun and tormenting of the infidels must end some time.

Oh speaking of that Sharon said she will be closing the Paiute in 5 years so every one of you better get out there and get in as much riding as possible between now and then. You wouldn't want to miss out Wink

I just had a funny thing happen last night that made me think of this whole subject and our dear friend, Gary's girlfriend, Sharon.  Grin

I drove into our carport last night after work about 6:30 and out in my backyard standing next to one of our ATVs was a little 2 point buck with 3 does and a few yearlings.  When I got out of my car they just stood there looking at me.  They couldn't have been more than 30 feet from me.  It was so awesome.  But it did made me think about our troll's comments and laugh. Perhaps they are talking to me and letting me know that they love atvs. Rolling on floor laughing
