The Arapeen ATV Jamboree Is On Again!!
03/09/11 at 13:50:24

After a years hiatus the Arapeen ATV Jamboree is on again!

Due to a lack of registrations last year, mostly due to economics of the country, the 2010 Jamboree had to be canceled. But the organizers will not give. They have set a new date for this year and are moving forward with this years event.

So take a look at their info on Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!
or use the link on the front page of Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!

The Jamboree will be September 5th thru 9th 2011 and features rides on the Arapeen ATV Trails as well as in the San Rafael Swell.

I have setup online registration and payment for them making it easy to sign up. If you have never been to this Jamboree, check it out. You will love it.

I clicked onto their website but couldn't find any ride descriptions. Without some idea of what's offered it's hard to know what to expect though the entry seems a bit expensive especially for a passenger. More info is needed although the timing just a week or so before Richfield might be an inticement. Anybody with experience of this event care to comment?

There was a hiccup in the database. The rides page is back.

As for the pricing, the passenger is the same as the rider as it is for most Jamboree's. This is because the cost to put on the even is per person for the meals, t-shirts and other things not per machine. The pricing is also inline with most other Jamboree's. It is $120 per person with 5 days or rides. The Tri-State is $100 per person for 3 days of rides, The National Jamboree is $110 for 5 days of rides with a small discount for couples and or groups of 4 or more, the San Juan Safari is $100 for the first person then basically $75 per person in a group for 3 days of rides. The only one offering a passenger a much cheaper rate is the Rocky Mtn Jamboree and this is only a test year to see if it will work for them and to help boost their falling numbers. They used to run at or above 600 riders and have been down a couple hundred the past few years. They are charging $125 for the driver and $50 for a passenger but no group discount for 5 days of rides.

So if you look at it based on cost/days of rides and other event fun they are right in line with most others. One thing everyone needs to remember with any of these Jamborees is the permitting, meals, t-shirts, prizes, and other items provided to the participants costs them per person not per machine.

Thanks for responding. You are right about the Richfield price, we registered in December for my 11th year and my lady's 4th. The UTV/ATV jamboree in Marysvail used to be free for 3 days but I don't know about this year. It has always been my opinion that less should be spent on prizes, tee shirts and such to make it easier for people like us that come from about a thousand miles away to better afford these fun events. With my diesel truck pulling our toy hauler I get 10mpg so this trip costs about $800 just to get there and return, not considering with many of these events we must trailer to the staging area also. I wonder why last years event was cancelled could it have involved the entry cost? It's hard to say but we must all count our pennies to be able to play, Gerry

Last years event was canceled because of the cost of travel. Their entry fee has not changed for several years. Regulars who came every year simply said the cost of gas was to high to travel and were staying closer to home. This was the case with all the businesses in Utah related to OHV activities. They all saw a huge drop in visitors. I've heard from some businesses that out of state visitors were down as much as in half. Sad I myself saw a 70% drop in sales of books and maps last year to out of state visitors. So far this years sales are way down too and I blame it on the economy. People are simply staying closer to home.

I personally don't know of a Jamboree that uses the entry fee to pay for prizes. Those are all donated by sponsors.

As far as I know, with all the Jamboree's, their entry fee goes to pay for food, t-shirts, permitting, lighting and sound equipment rentals, building rental for some of them, incentives for the guides, security personnel, stand-by medical personnel, advertising, entertainment and other expenses. Typically the Jamboree's entry fee's don't come close to covering the cost of the event. They also depend on larger sponsors buying booth space. Remember in most cases these are 5 day events that charge $100 to $125, thats less than $25 a day per person to provide food, water, t-shirts, entertainment, lights, security, guides, permits, and ton of other behind the scenes services. Pretty cheep in my view. It costs me that much per day to just go ride by myself Smiley

So the next time any one of you wins a prize at a Jamboree, go see the sponsor who supplied the item and thank them for their generosity and sponsorship of the event.

By the way all of the Jamboree's I know of in Utah are non-profit events. their goal is to get you to the area and have fun, not make money off you at the Jamboree, they leave that to the local businesses such as Motels, RV Parks, Restaurants, gas stations, and others. Smiley

One big advantage to the Arapeen Jamboree is Mark Williams who wrote the book on the San Rafael Swell heads up the event so you could not ask for a better or more informed head guide. any ride he leads is bound to be full of secrets and information not generally well known to the general public. Things like off the beaten path Indian and mining historical information and wall drawings, historical and some times comical stories of the early pioneers in the area and so much more.
