Retirement - I've Been Wondering
02/13/13 at 07:51:13

The other day I was thinking about my friend BigJim (I used to call him G'rilla).  He and I used to work together.

BigJim finally got himself retired last year so he could spend more time riding and playing.  Well, I got to thinking how it would be to be retired.  I wondered about lots of things about retirement, seeing as how I'll be looking to join the ranks in a few years.  I decided I should investigate things a little more so I made a list of questions about retirement and then went looking for answers.  Here's what I've come up with.

Now Jim, you (and Dennis too) should speak up if any of the answers I've come up with, through some very detailed and thorough research, are in need of modification/update.....   You guys have been experiencing the "good life" for a while now so I really need to know how it is.

Question:  When is a retiree's bedtime?
Answer:     Three hours after he falls asleep on the couch.

Question:   How many retirees does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer:     Only one, but it might take all day.

Question:  What's the biggest gripe of retirees?
Answer:     There is not enough time to get everything done.

Question:  Why don't retirees mind being called Seniors?
Answer:     The term comes with a 10% percent discount.

Question:  Among retirees what is considered formal attire?
Answer:     Tied shoes

Question:  Why do retirees count pennies?
Answers:   They are the only ones who have the time.

Question:  What is the common term for someone who enjoys work and refuses to retire?
Answer:    NUTS!

Question:  Why are retirees so slow to clean out the basement, attic or garage?
Answer:    They know that as soon as they do, one of their adult kids will want to store stuff there.

Question:  What do retirees call a long lunch?
Answer:     Normal.

Question:  What is the best way to describe retirement?
Answers:   The never ending Coffee Break.

Question:  What's the biggest advantage of going back to school as a retiree?
Answer:  If you cut classes, no one calls your parents.

Question:  Why does a retiree often say he doesn't miss work, but misses the people he used to work with?
Answer:    He is too polite to tell the whole truth.

Pretty close Doug.  One of the best things is the flexibility in scheduling what you want to do.  It's nice not to have to put the job's needs ahead of your own wants.  Kind of like "Do I want to hurry back from the weekend so I can be to work on Monday or do I want to wait and travel home on Monday and avoid all of those folks who are hurring home for work."  Sometimes you might even decide to stay for another day or two of riding.  And maybe the basement isn't getting cleaned because you aren't back from playing yet.  It's a rough life, but somebody has to do it, right.

New guy on the forum here-

There is one question you may have forgot:

What day of the week is it?

It doesn't matter, every day is a Saturday!

Well being retired does have it's moments. My wife asked me again to patch the sheetrock in the basement, while she's at work. Crimmney I wish she would stop nagging. That's the second time in 6 months. I'm busy being retired!!!   Grin

For me retirement is waking up with nothing to do and being way behind by lunch time.   Smiley
