The 2014 Bill Thompson Memorial ride
01/22/14 at 07:41:43

The 2014 Bill Thompson Memorial ride will be April 26 2014 on the Orange Trail just out of Green River Utah. The weather should be warm by then. Hope to see several of you there.

Page , there will be no volleyball games that week !

I called the school district and had them all canceled . Also , no softball games , football games or soccer .

There is no one getting married  and there is no family reunions scheduled .

There . I have done the impossible and cleared your schedule .

Now come and have  Grinfun .

My GPS is pretty basic.   It would show when I've reached those coordinates but won't tell me how to get there really.  Is it easier to take the first or second Green River exit to get there?

Btw, on my way home from Moab today, I noticed they are prepping to do some roadwork in two places between Green River and Soldier Summit during this scheduled ride.  Getting there on time might require a very early wake up call!

I was thinking about hitting Moab area again on Friday and then coming back to G.R. on Saturday morning.  But nothing is set in concrete......
Could come ride G.R./Orange on Friday I 'spose.  But I got a hankering to do Mineral Bottoms and Gemini Bridges/Bull Canyon since I didn't get to ride those when I was there last week.
What's everybody else doing?

Yup. 80-90% chance of rain & thunder. Bring your wet weather gear.

Trying to see if my 16yo still wants to chase turkey this weekend!

I like the odds on the weather channel better they say only at 40% chance so we've got a 60% chance of staying dry.  May the odds be with us.

If it rains we will still be riding, bring rain gear.
The desert looks great when it’s wet. The colors are more vibrant. And there is a lot less dust. Hope to see everyone trhere.

Well folks, sorry to say this, but I think I'm going to bag it.  80% chance of heavy rain and 30 mph winds doesn't sound like much fun.  Besides, I've got some performance goodies coming Saturday so I think I'll just pull the wheeler into the garage, kick on the heater, and get greasy instead!

Gee Jim , what do turkeys have to do with the Bill Thompson Memorial Ride ?  You're not trying to hijack this thread are you ?   Roll Eyes

IMHO this was the best BTMR ever ! Awesome route , lots of slickrock and a great group of riders that made it fun ! Thanks to all who showed . it just goes to show that you can't judge a day by the weather forecast .

I know it's not quit 2015 yet (give it a few hours) but I just wanted everyone to start planning for the 2015 Bill Thompson Memorial Ride. The date to put on your calenders is April 25, 2015. We will be doing the Orange trail again. If there is enough interest we will do a ride on Friday the 24th. The thought now is to head out of Green River and go to Robbers Roost. Or we could do the Crescent Loop. Let us know your thoughts.

I would be very interested in the ride and I would love to ride the Orange Trail! I've never ridden the area before so I don't know the difficulty/strenuousness of the ride though, so I'd be up for some input from some that have rode it so I can decide if its physically possible for me to do.

It would also be great for me to meet more of you here on the forum so I can put a face to the names.  Smiley Smiley

Pretty much all of the Orange trail is EASY. 3 Lane Highway for most of it, with a few 2 track sections. Nothing really difficult or challenging, but still a nice scenic area. Only one section is very rocky, but not technical.

Not sure if this run gets into White Sands Wash and/or 10 Mile wash, but those are really fun with only a few technical sections (waterfall drop-off/climbs).

Twin Zukis -

While there is a lot of road to this system , if you dig a bit in the area there is a lot of fun riding to be had . Seems like I find a new fun areas each time I go down .
