Les, good guess...but look out further in the background.

St. George & Brute...a little further south & east.

I give up - must be off of 5-mile somewhere looking toward Rush Valley.

Ok, I will post a few more pics from the area to see if anyone can guess the area. If not, then I will tell you where it is. Sorry if this was too difficult to get...that was not my intention.

This Pic is a nice overlook that was taken a couple of miles further to the north on the same ride.

This second pic is a side view of the mountain that was to my back when I snapped the original two pics that I posted. The mountain is just shy of 12,000 ft.  Hope this helps.

Well that's gotta be Mt. Nebo in the background in the last picture so you must be up Santaquin canyon or somewhere near the Nebo Loop? But you could have possibly ridden up Mona Pole canyon to get there?
The other picture is without doubt, the south end of West Mountain and Goshen Bay.

You got it Kick Start, they were all pics from the Mona Pole Trail. The first two pics have the Currant Creek Power Plant (near Mona) in the background. The third pic is a view of West Mountain, Goshen Bay, and Lake Mountain. The last pic was of Mt. Nebo.

I get flashbacks thinking of that Mona Pole trail! Last time I rode it, I was on a buddy's Rincon. When we started coming down, the brakes glazed on me and there was no low range or engine braking. By the time I got to the loose, rocky section near the bottom where it gets narrow and very steep, I thought I was going to be found in pieces. I think I still hold the record for the quickest time down the mountain! But that's a record I'd rather not have. Wink

South and East of White Sands and overlooking the Green River. That looks like the location where I have a geocache hidden.

Or top of Dead Horse point overlooking the Colorado.

Tough one.

So your ATV must, then, be facing North, as the shadow would be on the West. Are you on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon?

This is a little pit outhouse that the BLM put in at the end of the trail. So now you know I'm at the end of a developed road or trail and not just along the edge of a cliff in the middle of nowhere. Also, this is not a state built outhouse, nor is it a National Park outhouse.

I've never been there -- But the clues applied to my Topo takes me to the Canyonlands Overlook at about 38* 24,259' N, 109* 42.555 W.

South of Chicken Corner and Hurrah Pass, Colorado river to the north and west, rock to the south east, end of a road and 5860' elevation. I can't find anything else that matches.

You got it. Canyonlands Overlook. If you look real close at the upper left-hand corner of the first picture, you can see a little blueish/gray patch. That is part of the Potash plant evaporation ponds.

It can be seen a little better in this picture. It's in between the tree and my Prairie.

Your turn m74me. Smiley

I have been all over the Shoshone Trail system and do not recognize that view. So I must guess that it is at one of the few places I have not been - the trail to Tony's Grove.

The trail to Tony Grove is not open to atv use. This is taken on a legal route (although it is not heavily used).

I'm thinking this looks kind of like the trail down to the Elk Valley Guard Station. Looks kind of like the trail just South of the radio towers.

But I've never been up there that early in the year. There's still quite a bit of snow on the mountain there. I'm gonna have to make an earlier ride this year!!

darn it these pics are making me very jealous. Here in IL we don't have trails to ride on let alone the beautiful views you guys have. I've been saying for 5+yrs I want to spend a week riding in Utah, but something is always blocking my plans. Be to Wisc many times which is nice, but not even close to your area.

I don't know the trail name/number, but that's Logan Canyon and its a trail (I think) I've ridden while staging from Bear Lake area. The trail runs North from Bear Lake, then parallels the Canyon for a bit.

That is what I was coming to as well. I think it is west of the Sinks and east, and then south, of the Canyon road as it turns.

I have been a little in that area in the winter, but not on summer ATVs and do not recognize the cliff face.

You're right Jim. The picture facing north is of Logan Canyon. But it is quite a bit west of Bear Lake. It's closer to Logan than to Bear Lake.

Getting closer -- it's definitely west and south of the Sinks. The trail doesn't show up on the Shoshone Trail map. There's probably enough clues here to find it on the Logan Ranger District motorized use map. As you come north off of the Turkey trail, and into the edge of the Sinks, there are areas to the north that do not have obvious visible trails. There is a large loop with some rocky areas. As you get to the NE corner of the loop there is a trail that takes off to the north and seems to dead end.
Do you access this area from there? Or perhaps another access point in that area?

This spot is 10+ miles south and 8+ miles west of the sinks. It is a branch off of trail 168 which runs from Millville Canyon over the top past Providence Lake and Logan Peak to trail 52 at the top of Richards Hollow. You should be able to find it on the Logan District map at the above link. The Logan Ranger District map is the official trail map for the area and shows quite a few trails that are not shown on the Shoshone trail maps.

I'm going to make a guess that it's Logan Peak then. That is West and South of the Sinks and overlooks the Logan Canyon road and is above Milville.

And I'm guessing you'd get there via trail #59.

The picture is of the north side of Logan Peak taken from the north end of trail 126 (it is a dead end trail here). From there you can look down Spring Hollow into Logan Canyon. Trail 42 would be along the top edge of the peak as seen in this shot.

I guess Doug has the correct guess at Logan Peak.

I'm not finding a trail #59. To get there you would have to get to the back side of Logan peak on trail #168 from Millville, Providence, Cowley or Herd Hollow.

Waiting for a ruling from Dennis...

Aw, heck. Go ahead kick start. You were right there too and you posted the trails first. I just named the location.

Your shot there KS. I pass the baton to you.

All right, I'll go.
