Mapping Apps available
06/01/14 at 13:18:18

Just inherited a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, an Apple I-Pad mini with 32 GB, and a regular I-Pad with 16GB.  I am wondering if anyone has come across any good mapping apps for ATV use for the above mentioned devices.   Hopefully someone has found some good, easy to use apps that will allow me to use these devices with mapping technology when I am out camping or travelling away from home.   Any good suggestions appreciated.

Huntinggpsmaps.com
I haven't used it yet but it sure looks like it might be a good one.
You buy it for the state you want.
If anyone here has it I would also like to know what they think of it before I spend the purchase price for it.
Shouldn't be long and I will get it so I'll let you know what it's like.

100% agree with Gary regarding BackCountry Navigator being the best Android App.  If you look in this thread a  couple of post down I posted info about BCN along with a link where you can download maps(tracks) for The Paiute, Moab, Taylor Park, and WV.  They are all color coded per the systems color coding or the Charles Wells books.
Every SxS that I ride with uses the Android App with the afore mentioned maps.  They mostly ride WV.

It is my understanding that Motion-X is the best Apple App.

Thanks for the responses.  Looking at the recommended BCN and BobT's previous posts with the screen shots,  I am wishing Apple would incorporate it into their devices.  I will check into Motion-X further and also into huntinggpsmaps.com.
If anyone thinks of something else please sound off.

Forgot about Motion-x. It's a good app on my iPhone but it will suck the juice right out of your phone battery. So make sure you plug it into your wheeler.
I used it quite a bit before I got my gps, in some was it was easier to use. Not sure now but when I got it it was .99. You have to download your area your going though if your out of signal range.

Wild Bill, nice to see you lurking out there and paying attention to all these high level infomercials.  I like using my GPS but this is a way to get some more mapping info when my home computer isn't with me on the road.  I wish I had a laptop like yours.
I did some further checking and found out the Samsung Galaxy 3 is an android tablet and therefore can use the BackCountry Navigator app.  I found the app at the Google Play Shop for $12 bucks.   All that is left is to download it and try it out.
Twin Zukis your idea about powering devices off our machines port is a good one.  I use it all the time with my Garmin 60CSx.  Sure saves on the cost of batteries.    Wink

Thanks Coop for the headsup.  Looks like a good idea for the I-pads.  I like that it shows your location on the map.
If anyone else has an app they like please sound off.   Got some great ideas so far.

Two other good Apps for using Geospatial referenced PDF's are Avenza and Maplets.  I know they have Android versions, not sure about Apple.  These type of maps are not that useful in the East since we do not have all the forestry maps.  However they do have maps for most cities, transit system and other popular areas.
I use a Montana on my ATV but use a tablet in my RZR where it is more protected.  Where we ride in WV we have both GPS and BCN maps to use.
