The 2015 Bill Thompson Memorial ride

The 2015 Bill Thompson Memorial ride
Start planning for the 2015 Bill Thompson Memorial Ride. The date’s to put on your calendar are April 24 and 25, 2015. We will be doing the Orange trail again.  We will do a Friends ride on Friday the 24th. We will head out of Green River and go to Robbers Roost.
On Friday we will start (leave) at 9:00 AM from Green River State Park head toward the Green River Airport  turning South towards Horse Bench Reservoir (Purple Pond) going by Trin Alcove, Moonshine wash, Saucer Basin, Lookout Point, Keg Point, Keg Springs, Horseshoe Canyon, Bluejohn Canyon and to Robbers roost. That is pending on the group. If we do a lot of sightseeing on the way out, we will head back in time to get to Green River for dinner. Thoughts are to have a Pot Luck Dinner at the Green River State Park.
Saturday; Leave the Staging area at no later than 8:30 AM. We will stage approximately 1/2 mile west of the east Green River Exit. We will be doing the Orange Trail and a few of the Side routes to some overlooks. Some of the route will be the same as in years past. We will be doing some routes that we have not done in past years.
Both days will be easy riding. Bring a lunch and snacks for each day and plenty to drink. The end of April the weather in the area can be at either extreme or be just great riding weather, so plan accordingly. We have done rides at the end of April many times. We have encountered Snow and freezing temps to temps in the upper 90;s and also many great days in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s.
Hope to see you there.

Any idea on how far the rides will be (Fri and Sat)?

As you know, I have a smaller tank and don't buy local corn gas!  Gotta bring whatever I'm gonna use....

I won't be there either. I just discovered that I have a seized shock and the left rear A-Arm frame attachment is ready to break off!  I will be dropping the Polaris off to the dealer and they're 2 weeks behind!  Huh

I'm still planning on being there for both days.

Dale, are we still on for the dinner Friday night? if so, count me in.

Alice and I are planning to be there both days.  Alice said she'll bring a salad (frog eye).

Dale, can you bring me some of the new Shoshone maps to the ride?  I'd like to have a bunch to give to people when I meet them on the trails up here.  A lot of people don't seem to have any map of the area at all.

Plans changed...I am coming both days.  I should be at the second green river exit before 9 am.

I will be across the street at motel 6.  Is there anything I can help with.

Sorry, no stickers...just have not had time.

Dennis and Chris, glad to see you are coming!

Dale, can I get some of those new Shosone maps as well? It seems I always run into folks that have no map and no clue on where they are. I tend to give away my maps regularly in cases like that.

Good ride yesterday.  Nice to put some faces with the names here.
According to my odometer, we went about 74 miles and saw some pretty remote country straight south of Green River on the west side of the river.  I'd driven through some of the area in my truck antelope hunting before, but never ridden an atv out there.
I was amazed at the nice roads.  Most of them were 50 mph Honda Civic roads and smoother than some of the paved roads in Utah county!

Thanks for the good time and those who organized the event. Wink

So how was day 2?

Some buddies out in Grand Junction said it rained over an inch on Saturday and they were stuck in the mud.  That downpour wasn't too far from Green River.

Btw, I just topped off my quad from the first day's ride (been out of town since) and it only took 3.8 gallons.  That's 19.5 MPG!  I've never got that good before!  Must have been all that 2wd cruising and not much goosing!

Thanks for the info Brett.  Wish I could have stayed Saturday.  It would have given me a chance to use my extra fuel I didn't use on Friday! Cheesy
