I have a single 2Gal tank connected to an air compressor, but when I thought the tank was leaking, I ordered a new VIAR tank. The original tank has sealed up such that its now holding air for ~4 days.

I want to connect the tanks in tandem. I assume that since the first tank has the pressure release and manual pressure release that I can just connect the 2nd tank inline without all the extras (pressure release, pressure gauge, etc)?

Please advise as to the best configuration.

Yup, these are for my train horns, but now I intend to use these for tire inflation as I've yet to find a decent reason to lay the horns on anyone (YET!).
That's how we did it on our service trucks and on semi's.
Never had an issue as long as at least one tank in the series has a pressure relief and you don't have any one way check valves between them, just a connecting line, then the pressure will be equal in all and the relief valve will protect them all.

New tank had a ton of slots for fittings. Last fitting I had was a pressure release valve, so I used it. Now when filling the tanks, its triggering the pressure release valve and purging air. If I remove this valve, any risk of tank detonation or is this normal behavior when each tank has a pressure release valve?

I'm going to replace that pressure release valve with a female quick release adapter so I can connect a hose for pneumatic tools.

Thanks. I removed the pressure relief valve from the 2nd tank and installed a female quick disconnect (for pneumatic tools), then powered everything up; 10 minutes later, the compressor turned off and both tanks were full and the bed of my truck didn't detonate!  

The hose I have between tanks has a minor leak on the 2nd tank, and tape didn't help it, so I guess I'm replacing that now tomorrow!

Thanks, all. Now I have 4 gals of onboard air, air compressor, train horns and pneumatic tools for any projects I may have to do while on the road!
