63mm Turbo Time!
10/30/18 at 14:08:59

After 205,000 miles, the stock turbo on my truck (or at least the VGT actuator) gave up the ghost. Time to upgrade to a larger 63mm unit!

Can't wait to see what the extra air flow does in conjunction to the FASS150 fuesl system I had installed months ago!  Wink

Already there. Recent upgrades included Injectors, Intercooler, FASS150 performance fuel system and a heavy duty, all billet RevMax transmission, head gasket + studs.

That should do it. Bigger turbo, down tube, bigger injectors , chip, exhaust really helped my Ford. I also have all the trick stuff in the trany plus a billet torque converter. DON~~~

New billet wheel 63mm VGT turbo in place and removed everything south of the turbo (ie.. straight pipe). Not sure if I like how loud the exhaust is now and may need to add a resonator back inline.

Opened up the airway and added some HP to be certain. I think I just went from ~25-32PSI max boost to 40-45PSI max boost!

From a guy (me) who used to replace a lot of broken head bolts and head gaskets for a living, anything above 35 psi can lift the head stretching headbolts and causing the head gasket to blow! Make sure you retorqe the head bolts before pushing it to the top.

I have ARP425 studs already in place. That being stated, I'm not going to sled pull or race.. just tow heavy. Noticed on the way home today, pushing 50PSI back pressure with the exhaust brake on. I worry more about the EB back pressure than the BOOST, I think..

It can and has been calibrated, but I can't adjust on the fly. As it stands, its working perfectly right now.

According to Cummins and Jacobs 60 psi EBP is max.
Much above that will begin to float the valves.
Even with upgraded valve springs this should be considered max.
So it sounds like if yours is calibrated to 50 you should be safe.

Thanks. I havent seen much beyond 50psi EBP. This new turbo plus full turbo back delete are unreal! Since I have the performance transmission, I haven't been able to turn up the power yet. 50 more miles of stop/go driving for the relearn to complete, then we'll see how this extra BOOST feels.  Grin
