Tow rig got a ride home

Coming down Highway 6 right at the rest area my truck acted like it shifted to neutral. Now it won't move what ever gear you try. Had to have it and the trailer towed to Plain City. $850.50 for 128 miles. Don't have a tow rider on my insurance Sad

The tow driver found out it was to tall to carry on his truck so he was going to charge me and leave. I asked him how much over I was and he said about a foot. SO I told him I would take the A/C unit off the roof and that would give him 13" less. I did it and it blew the drivers mind.

Got to get the camper off and take it to the dealer. Can't figure it out on my own Angry

Sorry for the trouble and pain, let alone the ~4 hour wait at the rest stop. I've been there with transmission issues at least 3 times now and I know how miserable it is.

Do let me know what they find out, I assume with the low miles on your truck, you still have dealer warranty..

Been troubleshooting the F450. It looks like something is wrong inside the transfer case. I can hear the locking pawl skipping till it locks when shifting to park. So that tells me that the output shaft on the transmission is turning, the parking pawl locks into that shaft.

A little more studying the workings of the trans and transfer case and I will probably pull the transfer case out and tear it down.

Looks like the fork was out of place and wore into the planetary gears. Pictures coming.

Yeah, when I have the time, I do my own maintenance, but I'm not at the level of dropping the trans or transfer case. I'll do fluids, injectors, turbo, plugs, basic oil/fluids maint - but when it comes to the heavy lifting, I'll pay for that work. Case in point, my Audi -- it's terrible to work on. Parts are always special order, harder to access than my wife's 4Runner! Cool

All my parts tracking numbers say they are on they are on the truck and out for delivery. Looks like the truck will be back on the road next week.

A weekend of playing Cowboy at a shooting competition then back home to start the build next Monday, kind of excited! Cool

Edited to add: Parts showed up but had the wrong FORK. Why can't anything be easy? Angry

Edited to add more: Well c r a p, they overnighted me the correct fork. Went out this morning to start the buildup and found they had also sent me the wrong syncro set. Wish I would have noticed it when I found the wrong fork. Hoping for another overnight. DANG IT DANG IT!!!!
