Newfoundland Mountains Ride

A couple of us going to run the Newfies via the USAF/Lake Side training area and train track route tomorrow.

Staging at 10am at Exit 62 at the Lake Side exit off I-80.

Nothing technical, but bring food, water, extra fuel and tons of tire plugs.

To say today was COLD would be an understatement. From the Bombing Range warning sign all the way to the Newfies, temps stayed around 8F with a breeze. A fair amount of snow on the ground around the Newfies. Running the train causeway was interesting, especially considering there's no water around it anymore!

Cold as heck, but still a great day to get out. Sure would have been nice to reach the reported 44F temps today!  Wink

One more update on this. To reach the causeway, we had to traverse the county road through the USAF Bombing Range. The jets were thick as fleas, though we couldn't see them due to fog/clouds. We did get to witness one large ordinance drop (assuming a drop), but we never saw it. We could feel the concussion however.

Though I've been involved in US Army training exercises in that area, I've never been out there as a civilian. Knowing the jets couldn't see us, and we couldn't see them, but knowing they were dropping ordinance was a butt-puckering experience!  Rolling on floor laughing
