Who's riding this weekend?
07/16/19 at 15:43:39

Need to test out the OEM Polaris shocks in comparison with the Elka's I just removed. Need to confirm the Elka's were valved too stiff, or maybe its all just in my head.

A few places I'm contemplating this weekend should anybody be heading these places:

-Ophir/Jacob City
-Arapeen (staging above Fairview)
-Fremont Indian Museum area (East of I-15, just off I-70 and before the HWY89 turn off to Marysvale)

If things go right, I will be at Millers flat area around 10 am Sunday maybe late Saturday if I can get things cleaned up at the shoot fast.  You could do service work on the Tintic system this weekend. Saw it post on facebook.

I'm planning on riding the Hickman Canyon switchbacks, out of Otter Creek this weekend with my wife. One of my favorite trails. Smiley

X2 on that.  Took my wife on that trail for the first time this year.  She loved it.

Who's in the Marysvale area this weekend? Going to ride solo, likely stage near the Fremont Indian Museum and possibly overnight in Richfield if I'm too tired to drive home.  Hoping to head out around 0600 tomorrow morning.

Anybody getting out to ride this coming Labor Day weekend? I'm thinking a little Paiute might be in order and a possible boondocking along Chalk Creek Road and just above the FISP and off I-70 Fri-Monday of that weekend.

I'm thinking of a day ride on Saturday, starting at Circleville and riding to Marysvale on the west side of the loop, then fuel up and eat lunch at Marysvale before riding back to Circleville on the east side of the loop.

Keep me posted. If I don't end up in Marysvale proper (RV Park), I'll likely boondock RV camp up Chalk Creek Road.. not a fast route to Marysvale from there though.

I just got off the phone with Jorgensen's.  My 50" Fox Edition Rzr 900 just showed up today.  I will be picking it up this Saturday, and will be doing the Labor Day weekend ride in the Rzr instead of our ATV.   Cool

Rut and I will be boon-dock camping off Clear Creek Road, and somewhere in between or under I-70 and just West of FISP. I hope to get there sometime Thursday evening (after it cools), with the lovely wife showing up Friday evening in her new Jeep!

We hope to be somewhere along this trail, possibly under I-70 in the grassy campground area.. 38°34'15.1"N 112°27'48.3"W

Hope to see some of you on the trail!

Pretty decent solo ride today.  I clocked 96 miles total: over the top of the Pahvant range. PST15 to PST06 to Pauite 01 to PST10 to PST11 to PST04 and into Richfield for lunch. Return route was mostly asphalt, but did the PST76 to PST15 and RTB.

Huge groups of SxS's on the trails today. Encountered one group with about 20 machines.. dust cloud lasted at least 20 minutes..

Sounds like you had a good ride.  And I agree there were a ton of UTVs out today.  I did a solo ride in my new Rzr 900 Trail, Fox Edition.  I left Circleville at daybreak, and went up Wade's Canyon, and north on the 01 trail to the top of the Tushars.  When I got there I was all alone, and it was cold and crisp, and beautiful.  I got out of my machine and just sat there looking at the scenery for about 15 minutes.  Then I noticed something out of the ordinary, and it took me a moment to realize what it was.  It was a line of dust that stretched all the way from Marysvale, up the 02 trail as far as I could see.  About then a few UTVs showed up at the summit, and I figured I might as well leave, so headed down the 01 towards Marysvale.  There was an almost solid line of UTVs headed up the mountain, every few hundred yards apart, the whole way to Marysvale.  I'll bet I passed nearly a hundred UTVs.  There was a traffic jam at the junction of the 01 and 02 trails that took me several minutes to pick my way through.  And when I got to Marysvale there was a huge line of UTVs waiting to get gas.  I had to pull up at the side of the line so I wasn't parked in the street.  After refueling I returned to Circleville on the east side of the loop.  There wasn't as much traffic on that side, but still dozens of UTVs along the way.  Altogether, a 107 mile ride today.  And a good time was had by all.  Smiley

Today, we're going to take the 4Runner up toward Delano Peak / Big John Flat. LHM Dodge/Jeep Service couldn't figure out how to pull their heads out of their butts and a 4 hour rock slider/electric steps installation took 4 days, so no JEEP this trip.

If you see a Silver 4Runner avoiding UTV's heading up the mountain, then either into Beaver or Junction, stop and say hello.. It will be the wife and I and two dogs in the back!

Experienced my first UTV/SxS ride from PST15 to PST13 to Paiute 01 to Delano Peak to Big John Flat and to SR153 back into Junction. This thing did awesome!

Just got back from a 98 mile ride in the low flying fighter jet, along the Utah - Nevada border with my son.  Wow, this thing impresses me.

What's the width on this? 2-seat comfort? Assuming you dropped down into the Gorge ? What's something like that cost if you don't mind my asking. Cheaper than cutting up a Toyota 4Runner?  Grin

72" wide.  Incredibly comfortable cockpit, with lots of leg room, and the steering wheel perfectly sized and placed, so it feels like you're driving a really nice sports car, and not a UTV.  Super plush, super comfortable ride, with two feet of fantastically controlled suspension travel.  Every time I sit in it, or drive it, I can't help but think, "wow, this is sooo nice".

One of the roads I took today is called Eight Mile Road, I don't know why, because it is about 20 miles long.  But there is one straight stretch, that is probably 8 miles, without any turns.  It is a narrow two track road in tall range grass, and it crosses about thirty cross drainage washes, that are really fun g-out's when you're going 50 to 70 mph.  Each wash is a little different, and you don't really know which ones are going to be small, and which ones are going to be huge, so you need to pay attention.  And there are always a few "oh crap" moments, where two feet of suspension travel saves your bacon.  What a great ride today.

Cost?  With discount, about $28K.  The thing is, when I sit in it or drive it, I am more impressed than with anything else I've ever owned.  When I sit in or drive my Rzr 900 Trail Fox Edition I think "man this thing is cheap".  The XRC is "worth" $28K far more than the Rzr 900 Trail is "worth" $14K.

We are riding at Pahvant Butte (also known as Sugarloaf) this Saturday.  We will have two or three UTVs in our group, and will be staging at the turnoff to the Clear Lake bird refuge on highway 257 at about 9 AM.  If anyone wants to join us, come on out.

Nice! Rut and I will be on the Arapeen Saturday morning. Should be good weather to get up on that old volcano! Let me know if you actually find the Devils Kitchen in that area. Loads of open "highway" once you come off the Butte (Volcano). Recommend heading toward the Lava Tubes when done, then maybe into Fillmore (if 50") and run Chalk Creek.

Not I, sadly.   Embarrassed  I have some torn tendons in my shoulder that are slowing me down, and insurance doesn't want to approve the surgery unless I do PT and steroids first.   Sure, I guess in SOME reality, PT could re-attach tendons.....

I may or may not have had a crash.   Grin  It was a very mild crash, but the machine did roll, and I did NOT want the machine on top of me, so I leapt well clear.  Unfortunately, the incline meant that I then dropped 10-15 vertical feet before I landed, and my feet slipped out from under me, and I came down on my right arm.   Sad

I had worked 12 straight days and had a lot around the house to do so I was not going to go ride.  Then I walked out the door to take the garbage out and saw the snow on the top of the mountains above Bountiful and I found myself headed up the mountain instead.  My Brute Force almost high center a couple times north of Fransis Peak.  The new snow with all the green was incredible and I could have filled my SD card with pics.  Though I would share several.

Wow! Nice photos, Rich! Rut and I were on the Arapeen, but no snow and it was bone dry - so clearly Northern Utah got it worse than Central.

Thanks for sharing those awesome photos!

Time to break out the ATV again. Its looking like mid 40's this coming weekend and I think its time to check my geocaches in the 5Mile to Eureka area.

I also need to visit with Eureka City to see how they're progressing with Phase 2 of the Chief Tintic trails project (pit toilet, staging location, kiosk). State grant money is ready, just waiting on them..

Who else will be out and about that area?

My wife and I will be doing some exploring in the Gold Butte, Nevada area this Saturday. We went two weeks ago in the Jeep, and found that there is a lot more to be explored in that area, but that it may be more fun in a UTV. This time we are going back with the Maverick X3, if anyone is interested in coming along.  Weather service is predicting 54 F and sunshine.

Have fun! I'm going with Expedition Utah to the San Rafael Swell. I'll get there late Friday night and join the group early Saturday morning! This will be in the Jeep Gladiator.

PICS or it didn't happen! I have a couple of geocaches in the Gold Butte area.

Yes, planning on checking that area out.  There are supposed to be a lot of petroglyphs there

And a good time was had by all.  There sure is a lot of territory that still needs to be explored in this area.  115 miles today barely scratched the surface.
Here is a picture from Fisherman's Cove

Where I was riding this last weekend. 128 circuitous miles of dirt road to get to this point, and about half that far again to get back to pavement.  We didn't get back to pavement until several hours after dark. Learned a few things about this UTV, the muffler is the limiting point of departure angle, not the bumper, andit does really well on sidehills steep enough to make the wife scream.

The wife and I went to this location until some crack-head that was camping nearby pulled a gun on us.. Seems we made him super nervous. Rather than engage in a gunfight (Yes, I had my 1911 on me), we decided to depart the area.

White Rocks, adjacent Dugway Proving Grounds (US Army base).

These are from earlier.. We didn't have time to take photos with meth-head running around. There's snow on the ground out there now and it was a muddy mess..

I don't have tracks to it, but can give you directions.  Take the road south from Bunkerville for ~25 miles until you get to Whitney Pocket.  At Whitney Pocket, right after the road turns from pavement to dirt, there is a fork in the road.  The right hand fork goes to Gold Butte, and the left hand fork goes who know where (haven't explored it yet).  But, … you take the left hand fork to go to the CCC dam.  There is a sign that says CCC Dam, with an arrow pointing that way, but the sign is facing the other way, so you only see it when you are on the way back from Gold Butte.  The dam is only about 1/4 of a mile to perhaps 1/2 of a mile down the left hand fork of that road, and is on the left hand side of the road.  There is a small cement tank in the ground at the base of a narrow rock canyon.  Follow the trail up that canyon about 75 yards, and you will see the dam.

Well, I was thinking about an Elk hunt (likely last for my tags this year) this coming weekend, but my hunt buddy isn't going to be in town and there's no way I can drag (even after gutting) 300-400 pound elk into the back of my truck.

So, what's a guy to do? Jeep or ATV? Thinking I'll head West again toward Ibapah Peak area and explore some more..

That or join Utah Jeep Club to run Black Rock Canyon near Eureka..
