Hurricane toward Mesquite (Beaver Dam)
11/12/19 at 19:47:48

Took the Jeep on a 113 mile expedition down the mountain and to the East of I-15 on some seriously fun, though rugged and steep elevation gain trails into and toward Mesquite.

Tracks attached for reference for those that have interest. Going to take the ATV's down maybe in January to run this on the quads..

Jim,
Does that route take you by BEER CAN Fence above Mesquite ? Also that could be ran from Sand Hollow for a basecamp too I guess to save a little time !!

The route I took stays North and East of Mesquite, though the route does proceed further South to Mesquite and would likely take you down toward the water tanks into town. We chose to get closer to Littlefield so we could buy our Lotto tix!  Rolling on floor laughing

We drove a large portion of your track back in 2015 when a group of us rented JKs and drove out to Toroweap.  Drove from St.George to Toroweap, then took the road you took back into Mesquite.  It was raining and dark when we started down the mountain into Mesquite and the street tires on rental Jeeps adds a pucker factor to those rutted roads and switchbacks.  We made good use of the skid plates near the bottom as well.

If you have the time on your next Jeep trip south, add Toroweap to your itinerary.

The trail in toward Mesquite was nicely marked and we saw the turns to Toroweap and other locations on the BLM/USFS trail markers. The section on the mountain in the trees was awesome. For a moment, the wife and I thought the steep climb up was going to dead-end at the Microwave towers at the top, but fortunately it just looped around.

Just ran this again over the last few days. This time though, we veered further East to reach the top of the Hurricane cliffs via the Honeymoon trail area.

Want a fun, slightly technical trail..Elbow Canyon, Paiute Wilderness and Black Rock Mountain is your destination. Loads of side trails up top in the big pines too!

Just posted on my blog at utahbruteforce.com. I need to update the new route I just took to reach the top of the Hurricane Cliffs, but the tracks I posted will take you to Black Rock and toward Sand Hollow West Rim.

We experienced snow at the top in March, so be advised. If you're going to run it and expect snow, I'd start from Mesquite rather than from the North. Bring extraction gear too in case you slide into the ditch while going up.
