So I Bought This UTV With An Enclosed Cab

I had been looking at a new Polaris Ranger XP with a cab and AC, and then a new Can Am Defender with a cab and AC, and boy do they want a lot of money for either of those.  But for a few thousand more, ... this one is nicer. Smiley

I did 170 miles of off road today, stayed warm, and used less than 1/2 tank of gas. Smiley

Nice club.

I was just looking at the specs.  The Jeep is less than 2" wider than my X3.  It is surprisingly agile, and did really well all day.

We did about ~220 miles of offroading between yesterday and today. We discovered some awesome new areas to explore in the west desert.. unreal that I'm still finding places I haven't yet explored. I'll need to go back with the ATV as the foliage was dangerously thick and we did not want desert pin-striping (yet).

If you haven't found out yet, you'll quickly realize that a Jeep is where money goes to die! Smiley There are an unlimited amount of accessories for these things.

On that note, when is the bumper + winch getting mounted up?  Rolling on floor laughing

I already bought the winch, LOL. It is a Warn M8s, and it is sitting in the box in my garage. Still trying to decide on which bumper to go with, but probably an Expedition One Core bumper, or maybe a Poison Spyder Crawler bumper. ... and they tell me 35s will fit a Rubicon with no mods at all.

It was pretty fun yesterday though, even with it still stock. It was great at the start of the day when everything was frozen and it was 18 degrees. Later when it warmed into the low 40s, everything turned into a soupy muddy mess though. Some of the water holes I had to cross made me start wishing I already had the winch mounted on the Jeep. $20 at the car wash, and my 1 day old Jeep was almost clean again.

I purchased and installed their front and rear bumpers, rear spare tire carrier and rock rails on my JK.  They have awesome products, all made in the U.S.A.  I ordered directly from them.  They also have a ton of installation and product videos on YouTube.

Both of those bumpers look nice. I'm looking for something small and lightweight if I can find something that looks good.

We'll see if this link works ...

Hey Radarsdad, thanks for the tip to look at Rock Hard bumpers. I may just cheap out and put their winch mount on my stock bumper, and save myself $500. This doesn't look too bad.

I'd be nervous about using the factory bumper. I kept the OEM bumper and it weighs like 30 pounds (or so) and is mostly plastic. Not much material for mounting a winch to, let alone not folding up on itself.

The Rock Hard products are all awesome.  The components are CNC laser cut and the welds and powder coating are flawless.  I've been a welder/fabricator for 41 years and I'm very impressed with their craftsmanship.

I had a couple questions when installing my equipment so I called Rock Hard for advice.  The owner, James Barth answered the phone and we had a long and in-depth conversation and he addressed all of my concerns.

I'm not sure if you found the installation videos for your JL so I provided the links below. There are videos for both OEM steel and OEM plastic bumpers.  You may want to call them or check their website to see if they're running any Black Friday specials.

The more I drive this Jeep the more I like it.  The engine and transmission are just fantastic.  It feels like a sports car more than any Jeep I have ever owned before.  The 2.0 liter e-torque engine is what really makes it work so well I think.  It is a mild hybrid, with an electric motor that adds 130 lbs ft of torque at low RPM, while the turbo adds power at higher RPM.  You can't feel where electric boost stops and turbo boost starts, and the net effect is lots of smooth power all the way from idle to red line.  Combined with the eight speed transmission it is always in its power curve.  With previous JK's, as soon as you hit dirt you pretty much had to shift into low range, because they just didn't have enough low end grunt, or gearing, to do much in high range.  On my trip last weekend I did 170 miles of dirt roads, including several narrow two track roads with washed out areas that I had to cross, and several mud holes I had to go through.  I did the whole trip in high range, and never once felt the need to go into low range.  And the Rubicon has a 4:1 low range transfer case, so low range is going to be insanely low.  I can't wait to try it out.

And on the first tank, mostly off road, I got 24 mpg, so that is good too.  I just filled the tank for the first time, and it cost $32.  My Power Wagon would have cost $60 to fill the tank with the gauge in the same place.

So far so good ...

Put a lift + tires on it == AWESOME! Our 3" lift + 37's clear just about everything we've tried to tackle. Despite the long wheel base of the JT, we've yet to touch the rock sliders and trust me, we've tried.. especially on the trail East of Mesquite..

This is what I use for the Dually and the Jeep. I can do 4 tires at once. Its not perfect for PSI, but its pretty darned close!

That is what I use as well Jim, but mine are made by Staun.  I've been using them for the last few vehicles.  I just stop at the start of a trail and put the tire deflators on.  Then drive a few miles, and stop and take them back off again.  Mine are set at 17 psi, which seems to be a good all around off road pressure.

Another thing that I carry in my tire kit is a Colby valve stem.  It lets you replace a sheared off valve stem without removing the tire.

I just got a RotoPax 4 gal mount + 2 mount packs, a Fiskars 29inch machete axe, 2x 40,000 rated Red Soft shackles, 2x 32,000 rated Red Hard shackles, a Smittybilt winch shackle (to replace the hook), HiLift Jack w/neoprene cover, an automotive fire extinguisher with roll-bar velcro straps,.

I could accessorize until I was bankrupt!  Rolling on floor laughing

What I bought this UTV for, ... exploring on days when the weather would force you to stay home otherwise.  We did 140 miles of deep snow today, and stayed warm and dry.  Got to love that Rubicon package as well.  The snow was ~14" deep for a large part of the trip, and there was one narrow steep hillclimb with some sections that really twisted up the suspension.  We tried it first in 4-Hi, and couldn't make it, so had to back down.  Then we tried it in 4-Lo, and still couldn't make it, and backed down again.  Then I turned on both front and rear lockers and tried again.  This time I drove right up the hill like there was nothing to it at all.  Smiley
