Beginner/intermediate trails from Marysvale
01/30/22 at 08:52:19

I realize two other's have ask this but my requirements (skill level) are probably different.

My wife and I have recently (in the last year) taken up riding our small Honda recons (2 WD) on our property and some beginner/intermediate in Arkansas.  I'm 66, she is a little younger, so we aren't interested in anything difficult, just riding some trails and seeing your beautiful area.

I've been reading this message board for the last year and know there are many knowledgeable folks here.  I was hoping to get many questions answered, starting with what trails would fit what I described, coming out of Marysvale and returning to Marysvale each night?

Cant tell you about the Marysvale area. But just north of Marysvale in Richfield, you can ride out and go multiple routes and return to where you started from. Richfield , being a bigger town by far, will have more amenities.  Food , fuel, and so forth. Happy motoring.......

Forgot to mention, 90% of the trails I rode would be Honda RECON  doable, even  if if the Recon is a smaller bike.....

As I mentioned via email, get that Paiute TOPO map so that trail numbers make sense.

That being stated, my wife has ridden everywhere to include the Paiute on a 2001 Honda Rancher 350 (2 wheel drive), so most every trail on the Paiute should be accessible to your Honda.

Marysvale might not be the best staging location due to the extreme amount of large Side-by-Sides clogging the trails. You also have limited options to head up the mountain.

Now, that being stated, PST74 near Hoovers, PST02 up the mountain from Marysvale (watch for bigger vehicles), then south toward Big John Flat and maybe down the PST06 into Beaver for lunch.

PST02 up the mountain then North to Max Reid and down the mountain to the Fremont Indian Museum.

How long do you like to be out?

Up around Monroe mountain, into Koosharem for lunch, and back is a fun, easy ride.

I spent 3 months a year for 7 years in Marysvale and Panguitch lake. Marysvale is the perfect place for you to ride, stay on the main trails and you will never have a problem and you will never run out of trails to ride. Make sure you go in July after the gates are open to Big John flats. We always left Marysvale in the morning and returned at night. In Marysvale you can ride right out of camp into the trails, East and West. DON~~~

Thanks for all the information!

I've been e-mailing with Jim, had not checked here in a couple of days and was surprised by the helpful responses.

OldGrayCoat, I had looked at Richfield as a base and really wish I had waited to book until I had an opportunity to get some info from here.  I have rented a cabin right outside of Marysvale and while I can move dates I can't cancel without losing my deposit

It is good to know most of the trails are doable with the Recon.

I was thinking 4-5 hours of riding but taking our time so it could be most of the day

Just know that in October, the weather can be pretty fickle, but especially up at 10-12,000' elevation. You can start off sunny and end up in a thunder snow-storm. Bring cold weather gear and just be prepared for all 4 seasons in a single day.
