Snow is melting!
03/05/23 at 15:41:30

Just did a short ~30 mile loop around my property north of Panguitch. There are literally RIVERS of melting snow everywhere. Small ponds are forming. This reminds me of 2020 when RUT and I were trying to find a Poker Run loop around Circleville.

Its going to get UGLY if it warms up more than it did today (40F)..

Hah, yeah... still getting more snow, but daytime temps are above freezing.  This whole state is going to be soaking wet pretty soon.

Looking at snotel, all of the sites around the Paiute are going up and down, up and down... as much snow falling still as is melting off.  If it ever stops snowing, it's going to melt real fast.

I predict that the Chalk Creek (03) trail will be quite obliterated in the runoff.  Again.   Rolling on floor laughing

I dont know what the next few days will bring, but I drove north to Marysvale (for pizza) yesterday and noted there was NO snow on the ground from Circleville north to Marysvale. *at low elevation, that is*

If we dont get another blast of snow, I'm going to ride up in that area this weekend!

From what I've read, this snowstorm is likely to only leave lasting snow at something like 7,000 feet and up, and that the rain is likely to help melt existing snow below that point.  So the snowline should definitely raise up a couple (or few) thousand feet, but things are going to be muuuuuuuuddy!

Holy Cow!!! Did someone forget to turn off the snow machine switch.  I never expect to run the 10,000ft trails when I'm out in June but wow, I may have to stick to the desert this year. Rolling on floor laughing

Crazy snow to be certain. The melt is going to be brutal. Two days at 40F and I already had flooding..

I hear that things are melting fast and hard down your way, Brute.  How's the swamp looking?

Up here, we're still getting more and more.  The valleys are clear, but the mountains are still accumulating, and we have more coming over the next 10 days.

My property is now free of snow and almost all the puddles are gone. Shocking considering I had over 2" of standing water. Mostly dry now. We're going to take the Jeep out and try to make an offroad run to Richfield tomorrow. We shall see what the trails look like.

Yes, the Sevier river is running wide, hard and fast. I imagine Panguitch Lake will be very full and I know Piute RES. is already full..

Well, the SNOW *WAS* melting before this last storm rolled in.

At this rate, I doubt the top of the Paiute will open at all this year. Looking out my home office window to the North, Beaver Mountain and the Tushars are totally covered in snow!

There was 14" of fresh snow on the hood of my tractor this morning.  I was impressed with the snowfall and measured how deep it was before starting the tractor to plow snow.  Interesting that the biggest snow storm of the year came in April.

I would imagine The Barney Lake trail will be late with that last turn normally having a snow drift until the end of June.

With this recent warm-up (68F in Panguitch), our normally dry creek is a RAGING RIVER. I have to drive through that mess to make it home. Snow is clearly melting up Casto Canyon/Lime Kiln area..
