Eagle Canyon This Weekend?
03/22/23 at 10:36:01

Anyone know if there is snow in Eagle Canyon this weekend 3/25/23?  I'm thinking of taking the Jeep over to do some exploring.

Thanks LVKodiak.  I installed their app on my phone.  Looks like Moab is clear right now.  So, ... Moab it is.

Moab is clear on SOME trails. I was just there and Behind the Rocks was not passable due to snow. Some portions of the 3DJeep trail also had quite a bit of snow and Moab has gotten more snow since. Just take good care and have fun!

I'm thinking of something easy, like Poison Spider, Hells Revenge, Fins & Things, or Lockhart Basin.  I hope they don't get more snow tonight.  After Safari, and after I finish my Jeep, I'd like to do Cliffhanger.

You're back to a 2 door Wrangler, correct? What are you doing to the Jeep now? Driving home from Marysvale, we heard a loud bang and what sounded like a Spring go flying. Pulled to the side, looked around and saw nothing. The remainder of the drive home, the Gladiator was swaying hard side to side on the front-end. Turns out, the quick release and cotter pin on my drivers side sway bar came free and what we heard was the bolt going flying. Sway bar was just bouncing around..  Undecided

I had a front trackbar come disconnected once on a Jeep Cherokee XJ, and had to drive it home that way.  It wasn't fun at all.

I'm in this 4 door now.

The Jeep is pretty much finished.  Stock axles with stock 4.56 gears and Rubicon lockers.  A 2.5" MetalCloak Game Changer lift, 37s, winch and on-board air, and RSE stepsliders.  Still waiting on a set of Fox 2.5 DSC adjustable shocks, and a set of MetalCloak Undercloak skid plates.

I took a bad line coming down this ledge today.  See that bright new scrape about 4 feet to the left of the main line?  Yeah, that's mine.  The skid plates aren't so pretty anymore, and absolutely everything on the back of the Jeep got drug down the ledge when the rear tires dropped off.  It was super slow, but the receiver hitch, the tow hook, all four exhaust tips, and the spare tire got drug on that one.  Should have built for 39s, ... or learn how to drive.

Nice! No more the baby Jeep sitting next to my Gladiator, eh?  Rolling on floor laughing

I'd advise against the FOX shocks and go with Teraflex 3.3..

The Fox shocks are coming from Accu Tune, and are custom valved, not off the shelf from Fox.

We need to do Cliffhanger trail in late April after the Safari, or early May.  I always liked that trail before but haven't done it for decades.

I'm down to do Elephant Hill again. Have you done Hells Revenge yet? That final drop off scraped my front bumper..

I've done both trails, but it was decades ago for both of them.  I would be up for either one.

I here they are no longer doing the "Dump Bump" obstacle at the start of Hells Revenge.  It was a near vertical 10 foot high slickrock wall that you had to climb at the very start of the trail (there was a bypass that 90% of people took).  I stood a TJ right up on the spare tire once on that one.  The Escalator wasn't part of the trail when I did it either.  We did an obstacle called Tip Over Challenge instead.

Do you need a permit to do Elephant Hill?

Yes, a permit 24 hours in advance is required for Elephant Hill. As for Hell's, I don't recall a bypass for little Baby Lions Back (the steep ascent at the start). I did that in the JT last year!

Several of us are just returning from Green River and the San Rafael Swell area. I'm happy to report its DUSTY, no moisture on the ground and the San Rafael and Green Rivers are wide and raging!

Some especially fun sections on the western side of the Orange Trail..
