Trail Patrol Volunteers Needed
04/02/07 at 20:53:37

The BLM is looking for volunteers to help in the San Rafael Swell area on Easter weekend April 7 (and 8th maybe?).

Bill Alison with the BLM is asking for volunteers to be assigned certain areas of the Swell to ride and watch for abuse and be a show of support for the ATV community.
They will be supplying maps and info to hand out to those who may want it on the trails.  It's a big weekend for travel in the area and the BLM is getting a lot of pressure from SUWA that the ATV community doesn't do anything to police itself.
This is a great project for those of you who are part of the Trail Patrol but is not limited to Trail Patrol members.  So if you are looking for something to do on Easter weekend this would be a great way to help our sport.

Contact me and I will give you the email and phone numbers where you can volunteer Smiley

However....I have to work that weekend Sad

Is the trail patrol even still going? I sent an email a long time ago and was told they were going to have a class. I never heard from them again. They didnt reply to my emails. I know a lot of other people never heard from them either.

There are more that a couple in Northern Utah that are interested.

How can we organize something up here?

I'd be willing to help out organizing a meeting if someone can point me to the people we need to contact.

Grin Grin Grin
All,
Once again we will be doing a Trail Patrol project on the Swell on the Easter weekend. There are many of the Trail Patrol members that will be involved with the Easter Jeep Safari. THANKS you do a fantastic job and represent the Trail Patrol well.  For those that will be available to patrol the Swell on Easter weekend, please let me know that you will be coming, so I can watch for you. We will meet between 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday morning at Gillys in Ferron. The areas that we will patrol are, Devils racetrack, Fixit pass, Buckhorn wash/Cottonwood Draw. Tidwell Draw/Calf Mesa, Black Dragon, and the Poker Ride Trail. You can e-mail me or call me to let me know you are coming. If you need to meet some place different let me know. We will be giving out information, picking up garbage, and being the eyes for the county and BLM as to where any maintenance needs to be done. We may have some small project to help Bill Allenson with. Last year we fixed a few signs and picked up very little garbage. Some of you may have been ask to help through your clubs in other areas of the swell, please go with your club, there are a few clubs that are working with Bill to man booths and information trailers and patrol south of I-70.
I know that some of the other clubs may be doing projects in their areas this weekend. If we get 10 to 20 people, that will be great.
Thanks for all you do.
Dale

All,
We are still in need of a few Trail Patrol members to patrol on the swell Easter weekend.
We will be patrolling north of I-70 and meeting at Gillys Saturday morning or if needed Friday evening. We have many members that will be involved with the Easter jeep safari; they do a fantastic job there. We have buckhorn wash covered but other than that you can pick your area (you can do buckhorn too if you want). Give me a call or e-mail if you can make it. We also have some projects coming later this spring with the BLM and Im working on some with the Unita NF.
Thanks
Dale

Dale,

There was some conversation on the forum last year or before on getting together up North here to start up some training/induction for some new Trail Patrol volunteers.

How can we get something like this started for us folks up North who are interested in Trial Patrol?

We need to get the Trail Patrol more active on the Piute Trail. So along with the Big Ride this year we would like to meet with those who already are Trail Patrol members and those who are interested in becoming a member. What we would like to do is meet on Wednesday 20 or Thursday 21 in the evening, for about an hour to an hour and a half. We would like, as many people there as possible, so let us know which evening works best for you. Gary will help with a place to meet. We can have an informal meeting around a fire or maybe more organized in a building. Let us know what works best, so we can make arrangements.
Thanks
Dale

All,
I hope that everyone had a great labor-day weekend. There is a trail project this coming weekend on the Long Hollow/Monks hollow trail, we will be doing some repair to the trail about 2 miles up Long Hollow from Hwy 50/6 up Spanish Fork canyon. Long Hollow is about 2 miles east of the thistle (89) junction. This is a Trail Patrol, Dedicated Hunter, Eagle Scout project. If you are a dedicated hunter you can get hours for this project. For this project you can park at the Long Hollow Trailhead, we will start at 8:00 AM, if you have an ATV or OHM there will be a group meeting at the Monks Hollow trail head in Diamond Fork. The Monks Hollow Trailhead is 7.6 miles East of Hwy 50/6.
We can use all the volunteers we can get. Bring water gloves a shovel rake or pick and a willingness to work. Hope to see you there. For questions you can contact Dale Bartholomew.
Thanks
Dale

To all Trail Patrol Members,

I have been totaling the documented hours for the Utah Off-Highway Vehicle Trail Patrol foe 2009. We have a total of 1725.5 hours that have been turned in for 2009. Out of those we have some real Stars. The group that turned in the most hours was Moab Friends-For-Wheelin with 1342.5 hours.

The person that turned in the most volunteer hours was Jim Molter of Moab with 268 hours. Way to go Jim. All but one of the top ten people with volunteer hours were from
Moab Friends-For-Wheelin The top 6 are Jim Molter, Jeff Stevens, Gary Fischer, Melissa Fischer, Ber Knight, and Geoff Freethey.
Moab Friends-For-Wheelin dose a great job check out there web site

I know that there are a lot of Trail Patrol members that have put in a lot of hours.
BUT in this world we live in IF IT ISNT DOCUMENTED IT DIDNT HAPPEN. So please if you have done projects fill out the paper work and send it in. This paper work shows the land managers, that the OHV community is responsible and takes care of the land that we recreate on. If you have the paper work for projects that you worked on but have not yet sent it in please do so. I have already received a report from MFFW for work done in January 2010.

Thanks For All you do

I work for the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. I, with the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) are seeking volunteers in the greater St George area in an attempt to start a Tri-State volunteer group with the Arizona State Parks Ambassador Program. Their coordinator, Jeff Prince believes this first time effort to organize a Tri-State partnership will be a true benefit to the off-road user and land management agencies. I and AZGFD Luke Thompson (Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!
) are seeking interested ATV & Side-by-Side enthusiast willing to volunteer as an Ambassador in anyone of the 3 States (Utah, Arizona, Nevada). Shoot me an email at Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!

Hi all,
We have a Trail Patrol Project on a great trail. Saturday August 16 we will be doing some trail work on the Monks Hollow trail. We need as many as can come. We will be cleaning some culverts and trimming back some brush. If you have a shovel, or some pruners, please bring them. We will meet at the Monks Hollow trail head at 8:00 AM. The trail head is 7.7 miles from Hwy 6 in Diamond Fork canyon. Diamond Fork is 10.8 miles from I-15, and 3. 4 miles from the Thistle, Hwy 89 Junction. This project will not take very long maybe 3 hours if we have 10 or more people. Bring plenty of water, gloves, shovel or pruners, snacks and lunch. Bring your ATV to ride and do a ride after the project. This is a 50 trail so no OHVs larger than 50. If you do not have tools come anyway, we will find something for you to do. We will be working on Monks Hollow, Long Hollow trail, Teat Mountain connector and the new Sheep Creek Trail.
If you have any questions call Dale Bartholomew @ 801-592-7111
